#5 Drowning

(Josie Sayz: This is the fifth poem from my ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’ anthology. It’s one of my deeper, more serious and meaningful poems. For this one, I was inspired by ‘Eyeshine’ and ‘Simple Plan’ – two bands that always make me feel less alone.)

You don’t know what it’s like,
Not to be like everyone else.
You don’t know what it’s like,
To be left all by yourself.
When every day is grey.
Got nothing nice to say.
Sick of being stuck here this way.
I was drowning,
Struggling to keep my head up high.
I was drowning,
Sick of telling people I was fine.
I was drowning,
Stuck living in the dead of night.
I was drowning,
No signs of ever seeing daylight.
You don’t know what it’s like,
The feeling that are in my head.
You don’t know what it’s like,
Sometimes I wish I was dead.
Always feeling this way.
And it won’t go away.
Stuck like it every day.
I was drowning,
Struggling to keep my head up high.
I was drowning,
Sick of telling people I was fine.
I was drowning,
Stuck living in the dead of night.
I was drowning,
No signs of ever seeing daylight.
Needed to find another way.
Couldn’t take another day.
I needed somebody to save me.
You phoned me up, dead of night,
Promised you’d help me find the light.
I needed somebody to save me.
I was drowning,
Struggling to keep my head up high.
I was drowning,
Sick of telling people I was fine.
I was drowning,
Stuck living in the dead of night.
I was drowning,
No signs of ever seeing daylight.

#TBT - Falling Piano

(Josie Sayz: Another Throw-Back-Thursday. This old poem of mine popped into my head on my way to work this morning. It’s a pretty funny poem (to me) that I wrote when I was sixteen. It’s about a guy who used to hang out with my group of friends at college, but he was so phoney and fake and it used to really frustrate me. All he was interested in were girls thinking he was cool. He’s a popular local musician, but only because the girls all think he’s hot. I swear his only followers are girls. Grr, just thinking about him gets me angry. I guess I still need that falling piano. I did draw an accompanying picture; I’ll have to see if I can find it.)

Sitting there waiting with nothing at all,
I was wishing that piano should just fall –
On you.
Sitting inside on a sunny day,
Wishing that it would just rain –
On you.
It’s not nice.
(No, no, oh no)
I know it’s not nice
(No, no, no-no)
To wish hurt onto you.
(No, no. Oh no, no)
After all you’re insane
And you’ve only got yourself to blame.
Shame on you!
You’re standing over there with your friends,
I saw a bee and I wanted to send it –
To you.
Over there where you always sit
With a bow and arrow I just want to hit –
You.
It’s not nice.
(No, no, oh no)
I know it’s not nice
(No, no, no-no)
To wish hurt onto you.
(No, no. Oh no, no)
After all you’re insane
And you’ve only got yourself to blame.
Shame on you!
At the train station where you’re standing,
A piano should start falling down –
On you.
Standing on stage playing your guitar loud,
I wish a giant spider would just fall –
On you.
It’s not nice.
(No, no, oh no)
I know it’s not nice
(No, no, no-no)
To wish hurt onto you.
(No, no. Oh no, no)
After all you’re insane
And you’ve only got yourself to blame.
Shame on you!
Nothing you can do
Can save you now.
Hiding behind your bleach blond hair
Can’t save you now…
It’s not nice.
(No, no, oh no)
I know it’s not nice
(No, no, no-no)
To wish hurt onto you.
(No, no. Oh no, no)
After all you’re insane
And you’ve only got yourself to blame.
Shame on you!
Shame on you!
Shame on you!

#4 There’s One Princess That Doesn’t Need Saving

(Josie Sayz: This is the fourth poem from my anthology, ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’. This poem was inspired by a negative mood from society in relation to the portrayal of women still being damsels in distress and how women are still sucking up to it. I had also been listening to ‘The Dollyrots’ ‘Eat My Heart Out’ a lot and was hugely inspired by ‘Skinny’. p.s. I love fairytales.)

The story starts with
Once upon a time.
But this fairy tale’s not
Your usual kind.
Locked away,
I’m not waiting for a prince.
Guess this story is one
You won’t wanna miss.
Forever locked away,
In a tower far away.
Left there to be saved,
By someone royal and brave.
Long distance he’ll be journeying,
And dangerous obstacles occurring,
With dragon fire burning –
Well, there’s one princess that doesn’t need saving.
Why must royalty always
Be forced into wed?
Why can’t they let me make
My own decision instead?
Why is it that
Independence is seen as bad?
If I don’t pick a suitor
The King and Queen will sure be mad.
Forever locked away,
In a tower far away.
Left there to be saved,
By someone royal and brave.
Long distance he’ll be journeying,
And dangerous obstacles occurring,
With dragon fire burning –
Well, there’s one princess that doesn’t need saving.
You need to hear me out,
Because I can live without
A knight in shining armour.
I don’t need any help.
I can save myself.
No room for a stuck up charmer.
Forever locked away,
In a tower far away.
Left there to be saved,
By someone royal and brave.
Long distance he’ll be journeying,
And dangerous obstacles occurring,
With dragon fire burning –
Well, there’s one princess that doesn’t need saving.
There’s one princess that doesn’t need saving.
There’s one princess that doesn’t need saving.
I’m the one princess that doesn’t need saving.

#3 Not a Love Song

(Josie Sayz: This is the third poem anthology, ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’. I was kind of inspired by Austin and Ally’s friendship early on in ‘Austin & Ally’, as well as Maddie and Diggie’s friendship at the beginning of ‘Liv & Maddie’.)

I guess we’ve kinda been talking
For a while.
And when we do, you always seem to
Make me smile.
But that doesn’t mean we are
Anything more
Than the co-worker friends
We were before.
Don’t offer me a drink,
Nobody needs to know.
Don’t give me a wink,
Nobody needs to know.
Don’t you single me out,
Nobody needs to know.
Don’t you give me a pout,
Nobody needs to know…
Not a love song.
Just because you drop me home
At my door,
Doesn’t mean we’ll be together
Forever more.
Don’t want people to think
That we’re together.
Just because we spent one day out
In nice weather.
Don’t put your hand on my back,
Nobody needs to know.
Don’t help me out with my task,
Nobody needs to know.
Don’t say you’ll join in my hike,
Nobody needs to know.
We’re only in like,
Nobody needs to know…
Not a love song.
I’m not even sure,
If this could be more –
It’s much too early to tell.
Sometimes I think
I might be out of my mind;
It’s like you’re under a spell.
Don’t make me turn pink,
Nobody needs to know.
Don’t let them double think,
Nobody needs to know.
Near me don’t hang about,
Nobody needs to know.
In a crowd, don’t shout me out,
Nobody needs to know…
Not a love song.
Not a love song.
No, we’re not a love song.
Not a love song.
This is not a love song!
Maybe it’s a like song

#2 My, Oh, My

(Josie Sayz: This is the second poem from my ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’ anthology. It was inspired by my Taylor Swift obsession.)

You hug me at my door
Then we get into your car.
You drive us to your house,
We know it isn’t that far.
Then we get out of the car,
You open up your door.
You lean in for a kiss,
Then we cuddle some more.
And that’s when you said,
“My, oh, my,
Girl you’ve got me hypnotised.
Why can’t you see
That you’re the only girl for me.”
You wait ‘til were alone,
Then you make your move,
Run a hand through my hair –
You’ve got nothing to lose.
You lock the door.
You come inside.
You stroke my hair.
I look into your eyes.
I love it when you said,
“My, oh, my,
Girl you’ve got me hypnotised.
Why can’t you see
That you’re the only girl for me.”
Then I got scared.
What if we were never meant to be?
You hold me tight
And tell me that I’m being so silly.
You said:
“No one has ever made me feel this way,
I promise that I’ll never make you run away.”
And that’s when I said,
“My, oh, my,
Boy you’ve got me hypnotised.
I almost can’t believe
That you’re the perfect one for me.”
I love it when you said,
“My, oh, my,
Girl you’ve got me hypnotised.
Wish you could see
That you’re the only one for me.”
