Poem for You

(Josie Sayz: This is a poem for you, my old friend. I hope you find this one day.)

You hide your true self,
First from them, now from you.
Nobody knows you
The way that I do.

I know of your struggles,
With whiskey and wine.
You use them to mask
The pain you feel inside.

You do what your parents
And friends want you to do.
But it’s doesn’t make you happy;
I know that is true.

You want them to be proud,
So the truth you hide.
You keep holding that smile,
They don’t know that you lied.

You lied to your family,
You hid from your best friend,
The truth in your heart
And the love you made end.

You can’t replace her,
No matter how hard you try.
Anger burns inside you.
You’re living a lie.

I don’t understand
Why you choose to be fake.
Because being who they want
At night keeps you awake.

I know you don’t want
Them to be disappointed in you.
You’d feel like a failure,
If only they knew.

I wish you were strong.
I wish you were brave.
I want you to show the world
That you’re not afraid.

I want you to remove the mask
And runaway too.
Give up everything,
Like I did for you.

I’ll be there by your side,
Deep down you know that is true.
You try to forget me,
But I’ll always love you.
