(Josie
Sayz: This poem literally came to me within minutes, at work today. Nothing
needed amending or changing, it just flowed from my brain. Similar to the poem
that I wrote the other day, despite the theme, this has a very happy, upbeat
rhythm. I definitely has a Michael Bublé tune in my
head, as I was thinking of this… but I don’t know Michael Bublé songs, so I really have no idea which one.)
Twenty Year Ballad
When you’re at that age,
You feel ashamed,
To be in love with your best friend.
You take your time,
Try to change your mind.
There’s so much to comprehend.
Before that you knew it,
Last chance and you blew it
And now you’re both moving away.
College a fresh start.
You mended your heart.
Found yourself a new best friend.
He thinks your cute
And you like him too.
Before long he’s your boyfriend.
But he’s got something to hide,
He’s living a lie.
And now you go your separate ways.
Many years pass by,
No one catches your eye.
Then someone at work, they ask you out.
It's worth a shot
Find out if you like him or not
One date, there’s no harm done.
There seems to be romance,
Glad you took that chance,
‘Cause you’re thinking he’s the one.
Things were going just fine,
Then he changes his mind.
After almost five years, you’re through.
You don’t understand,
You had the future planned.
This was all so out of the blue.
He pushed you out in the cold.
No where to go.
Feels like your life’s come to an end.
Your friends won’t let you wait,
Force you to go on dates.
You hit it off with a uni friend.
But within time,
You change your mind.
You know it’s really not him, it’s you.
You know it’s not worth it.
It will never be perfect.
And you want to spare his heart.
Five years go by,
It's not like you didn’t try.
Three attempts, they all fell through.
You move to work on yourself,
And your mental health.
And start feeling good for you.
You can’t be together,
With someone forever,
If you can’t feel fine being alone.
You’re feeling alright,
Although it’s taken time.
You’re happy just being you.
Don’t want to feel stressed,
Or settle for second best,
Or be treated that way too.
No need to feel it’s too late
Or rush to find your soulmate.
Just have a good time.
