For me to feel happy and secure in a long-distance relationship, I need:
– A good morning and goodnight connection.
– To share parts of our day with each other.
– To feel that, when we check in, we both engage and respond.
– Some idea of when we’ll speak/call.
– Not to feel like I’m being fit into small gaps of time.
– For conversations to be continued, if they’re interrupted.
– To feel like the connection is a priority.
– To have plans for when we’ll see each other.
– To feel like my thoughts and opinions matter in your life.
I’m not being controlling or demanding. I’m asking for the basic level of communication, emotional presence and respect for a relationship to feel real and connected. I’m not looking for something low-effort (a situationship) or casual (friends with benefits); I want something consistent and meaningful.
I understand that long-distance can make things harder, but that’s why it becomes even more important to stay connected and engaged with each other, even in small ways.
