Don't Grow Up. It's a Trap!

(Josie Sayz: This has taken me several days, but it is finally finished. I bought an old copy of JM Barrie’s ‘Peter Pan’ and tore out my favourite parts. I layered each piece of text in specific places to highlight my favourite parts of the story and papier-mâchéd them onto a canvas. Once the canvas had dried, using a pencil I wrote the phrase, “Don’t grow up. It’s a trap,” and painted the lettering in several layers of black acrylic paint. This little piece was inspired by JM Barrie’s book, as Peter Pan is my favourite story.)

Rollercoaster Rainbow Anthology Covers

(Josie Sayz: This is probably going to be my last post for a while. Borrowing my mom’s tablet computer isn’t the easiest thing to use to type, format and copy my creative thoughts. So this is goodbye cyber world, until I can actually afford to purchase my own computer.)

Here are the front and back covers to my ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’ anthology. All of the poems can be found on my blog with their corresponding title name and number.

#13 The Happily Ever After I Never Knew I Wanted

(Josie Sayz: This is my thirteenth and final poem from my ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’ poetry anthology.)

I’m not your usual girl.
I was never out looking to find
Someone to spend forever.
You, my friend, were there,
Seemed to have been thinking
That we could be together.
I guess that I was blind.
Love never crossed my mind.
Butterflies you gave me,
But I could not believe.
It seems that you’ve been thinking
That the two of us could be.
How did I not know?
How could I not see?
I didn’t know you’d become…
My happily ever after.
I almost can’t believe
That picnic that you made,
A day out in perfect weather…
It would make me see
I love your personality
And we could be forever.
How was I so blind?
Love never crossed my mind.
Butterflies you gave me,
But I could not believe.
It seems that you’ve been thinking
That the two of us could be.
How did I not know?
How could I not see?
I didn’t know you’d become…
My happily ever after.
Now you’re always on my mind.
You’ve even got me thinking,
I’m gonna marry you someday.
You never leave my thoughts.
You always make me happy.
We’ll be together every day.
I’m not longer blind,
Because your love has crossed my mind.
Butterflies you gave me,
But I could not believe.
It seems that you’ve been thinking
That the two of us could be.
How did I not know?
How could I not see?
I didn’t know you’d become…
The happily ever after I never knew I wanted.

#12 My Peter Pan

(Josie Sayz: This is the twelfth poem from my ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’ poetry anthology.)

The days are blue
When you’ve been working all day long.
You feel so down
That you can’t even break into song.
You just frown;
You need to turn it upside down.
Something’s not right,
Need someone to show you the light.
He shows up,
Dressed in green.
Says it was all
A bad dream
Then you smile,
Give me your hand.
And say to me,
“Follow me to Neverland.”
‘Cause you’re my Peter Pan.
When you’ve had a bad day
You just wanna hit the hay.
No time to play;
In bed you wanna stay.
The clouds turn grey,
There’s no way you could stay.
You feel so out of shape.
You just wanna escape.
He shows up,
Dressed in green.
Says it was all
A bad dream
Then you smile,
Give me your hand.
And say to me,
“Follow me to Neverland.”
‘Cause you’re my Peter Pan.
Here he comes,
Just in time,
Taking me
By his side…
He shows up,
Dressed in green.
Says it was all
A bad dream
Then you smile,
Give me your hand.
And say to me,
“Follow me to Neverland.”
‘Cause you’re my Peter Pan.
‘Cause you’re my Peter Pan.
Fly me to Neverland.
Come on and take my hand.
Try catch me if you can.
‘Cause you’re my Peter Pan.

#11 Thursday in Summer

(Josie Sayz: This is one of my most favourite poems that I have ever written. Nice memories; another something old and sentimental. This is the eleventh poem from my ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’ poetry anthology.)

It’s been a long time
Since I’ve seen your face.
Thinking of you,
My heart goes back to that place.
You made me blush
The day we met,
And it’s something
I swear I’ll never forget.
Your smile, your eyes,
I was so surprised.
Sitting on a park bench,
Oh, how time flies.
Three whole months
That we’ve lived apart,
Keeps pulling strings on my heart.
With you being so far,
It brings a tear.
Now that you’re gone,
I still wish you were here.
And I wanna go back
To that Thursday in summer.
Your magic touch.
The way you stared.
As weeks fly by,
I wish we were together instead.
As the days go by,
I’m thinking of you.
It hurts so much.
I know you miss me too.
Your smile, your eyes,
I was so surprised.
Sitting on a park bench,
Oh, how time flies.
Six whole months
That we’ve lived apart,
Keeps pulling strings on my heart.
With you being so far,
It brings a tear.
When you’re not around,
I still wish you were near.
And I wanna go back
To that Thursday in summer.
You’re at work at night.
I’m alone in the dark.
Feels like jetlag
Playing on my heart.
Since I last saw you,
It feels like forever.
I just want you back,
Us back here together.
Your smile, your eyes,
I was so surprised.
Sitting on a park bench,
Oh, how time flies.
One whole year
That we’ve lived apart,
Keeps pulling strings on my heart.
With you being so far,
It brings a tear.
Now that you’re gone,
I still wish you were here.
And I wanna go back
‘Cause I wish you were here.
And I wanna go back
I still wish you were near.
And I wanna go back
To that Thursday in summer.

#10 Rollercoaster Rainbow

(Josie Sayz: These next four posts are all something old and sentimental. This is the tenth poem from my ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’ poetry anthology.)

We laugh, we cry,
Hard to wonder why,
I stick by you,
Just to see you lie.
But when we make up,
That’s the best part.
‘Cause only you
Can restart my heart.
Some days we’re up,
At times we’re down.
It’s like you drive me,
Round and round.
The rush climbs up,
Then we drop down.
Feels like we’re spinning
Round and around.
Emotional highs,
Soon snap back low.
It loops back around
It’s like I’m on a rollercoaster rainbow.
Being with you
Every emotion has flown by.
You’ve seen me smile and angry
And you’ve even seen me cry.
They’ve been many highs
And we’ve had our lows.
When we loop back around,
Need to learn to take it slow.
Some days we’re up,
At times we’re down.
It’s like you drive me,
Round and round.
The rush climbs up,
Then we drop down.
Feels like we’re spinning
Round and around.
Emotional highs,
Soon snap back low.
It loops back around
It’s like I’m on a rollercoaster rainbow.
You’ve seen me up.
You’ve seen me down.
You’ve put a smile
On my frown.
You’ve been playing
With my heart.
You were there for me,
When we were apart.
Some days we’re up,
At times we’re down.
It’s like you drive me,
Round and round.
The rush climbs up,
Then we drop down.
Feels like we’re spinning
Round and around.
Emotional highs,
Soon snap back low.
It loops back around
It’s like I’m on a rollercoaster rainbow.

#9 Puzzle Piece

(Josie Sayz: This is the ninth instalment of my ‘Rollercoaster Rainbow’ anthology. It has kind of expanded over time. The two verse pieces were originally a poem on their own and chorus just fell into place a lot later. This poem in particular is rather special to me.)

I love a rhythm and a rhyme.
Make it perfect every time.
But I’ve just gotta find
The right words in my mind;
To describe you
And everything you do.
You know, it’s all because of you,
You’ve changed my point of view.
I’d often dream of my happily ever after,
Days of love and fun and always filled with laughter.
Once upon a time,
You were a fairy tale.
I dreamt you’d take me by the hand
And together we’d set sail.
But I knew that was just a dream.
It was never meant to be.
That was just a fantasy
And this is reality.
I love your smile and caring eyes,
The kind that hypnotise.
Someone to keep me safe and warm
And save me from the storm.
That someone was you,
Came riding out the blue.
It’s like you arrived on cue.
You’ve shown me something new.
I’d often dream of my happily ever after,~
Days of love and fun and always filled with laughter.
Now I’m in once upon a time,
Living my fairy tale,
Because you’re my knight in shining armour
And together we’ve set sail.
I never knew what was missing
Until you found the missing piece.
That missing part was you
And now the jigsaw is complete.
